Our Thoughts:
If you have ever thought about starting your own business you need to read this first. My only wish is that I would have read this book sooner. I personally made several of the mistakes identified in this book in my first two businesses. A majority of the content of this book is not rocket science, but it is true. In the book the author puts people in 3 categories: entrepreneurs, managers & technician. Each has their strengths and weakness. After reading the book I finally grasped the understanding that I am an entrepreneur first and foremost. I lack the skills and drive of the manager and the technician and this key fact was seriously hindering my businesses. When I accepted this and made the changes suggested in the book I was happier and my businesses did better. – CT
Authors Description:
The E-Myth, Michael Gerber dispels the myths surrounding starting your own business and shows how commonplace assumptions can get in the way of running a business. He walks you through the steps in the life of a business from entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed. He then shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business—whether or not it is a franchise. Finally, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in. your business. After you have read The E-Myth Revisited, you will truly be able to grow your business in a predictable and productive way.

Title: The Long Tail, The, Revised and Updated Edition
Author: Chris Anderson

ebay: The Long Tail
Amazon: The Long Tail

Our Thoughts:
This book is an absolute must read for anyone looking to start their own Internet business. This book explains the new economics that come with the Internet age. It eliminates the misconception that big revenue must come from the handful of blockbusters. Chris illustrates this concept through some great examples. As I write this I found that this book was just updated in July 2008. I have not read the updated version, but will definitely in the near future.
Author’s Description:
This book explains how small businesses can be successful using the Internet to sell their products and services. This is because of what the title alludes to, which is ‘The Long Tail.’ The long tail shows how business is no longer concerned with just ‘hits,’ because of the massive interest that niche products can have. This long tail of interest can provide more income than the hits used to because the audience for a retail website is the entire world.
