Just to expand on your Go Daddy comment, with registration you can set up a starter web site, useful as a “under construction” sort of thing. Actual hosting of something beyond that is an additional fee and, as you found out, can be done with other providers with more functionality at better rates.

I do like and use Go Daddy as my domain name registrar.
